Naming a boat?

I was watching this movie today and I realized that whenever someone owns a boat they name it. Why do people name their boats? Are you required to name your boat to register it or what? What happens if you name your boat the same name as someone else’s? Do you have to change the name or does is not matter? I don’t know what I would name a boat. I’m not good at naming anything. I had a hard enough time trying to come up with a name for each one of pets when I was growing up, I don’t know if I could come up with a decent name for a boat. I would have to have someone else help me come up with a name for our boat. I’ll have to Google it today and see if I can find out why people name boats.
