As I was learning how to use "Crucial Conversation," I compared my learning to a baseball game. Baseball is my favorite sport and that has helped me to change the way that I use the text. Every time I would use a crucial conversation technique correctly, I would consider that me getting a base. Sometimes, I would strike out. There was always comfort in knowing that there are nine innings. That gives plenty of chances to succeed and plenty of chances to fail. If I did a really good job of using many of the techniques at one, I would consider that the homerun. I wasn't really playing against anyone but myself. All it did was help push me to use the skills better. I am glad I did that because I learned to love these skills as much as I love the game of baseball. Sometimes I was up to bat and sometimes I was the pitcher. I had to learn to hit a homerun when I was up to bat and to pitch hardball when it was my time on the opposing team. I learned to use this when I would have conversations.
