Unpalatable Facebook comments lead to Church of England bishop becoming suspended

Inappropriate remarks on Facebook have gotten a Church of England bishop suspended. Broadbent, a bishop in the Church of England, posted some crass statements about the engagement of Kate Middleton and Prince William. The Church of England was not intrigued. He is on an everlasting suspension.

Suspended bishop for showing up to noble wedding ceremony

Remarks on Facebook got an Anglican bishop in trouble. In fact, he was suspended because of it. The Rt. Rev. Broadbent, a bishop in the Church of England for the parish of Willesdon, a borough of outer London, took to Facebook and posted some interesting viewpoints on the pending royal marriage, according to The Guardian. His comments said:

“We need a party in Calais for all good republicans who can’t stand the nauseating tosh (nonsense) that surrounds this event.”

He talked about other English royal family members marriage issues like Prince Charles and Prince Andrews who have had divorces that the media has been all over which is why he suggests the marriage would only last seven years. Then again, each time Sarah Ferguson gets into headlines it becomes so again. Public backlash had been fairly strong, and Broadbent apologized and retracted his comments.

Put on indefinite leave

This had been something the Bishop of London for the Church of England, the Rt. Rev. Richard Chartres, had to intervene with since he did not the apology had been enough. Broadbent was asked to "withdraw from the ministry until further notice" after his boss had just a little talk with him. The royal family is apparently staying out of the situation. Neither Kate Middleton or Prince William has made a comment.

A poor way to phrase it

The statements made by Broadbent seem to be aimed at the sheer amount of media coverage over the event, which some others concur with, based on the BBC. You will find numerous times when super star events are blown way out of proportion. Of course, everybody probably still wants to know that in April 2011, at Westminster Abbey, the royal wedding ceremony will take place.
